As a community of public health leaders 696 works to address the root causes of why gun violence has historically been a crisis within the Queensbridge community.

696 Queensbridge continues to be one of NYC’s most successful gun violence prevention programs. But 696 is not just an anti-gun violence program. It’s leaders and its mission has redefined how gun violence can be addressed via a public health lens. As a community of public health leaders 696 works to address the root causes of why gun violence has historically been a crisis within the Queensbridge community.

696 Build Queensbridge has actively been at work to interrupt violence within its catchment area. Our team is constantly performing interruption activities on the 41st side of Queensbridge, in Woodside Houses, Ravenswood Houses, Astoria Houses and sometimes Southside Jamaica Queens. Over one-third of our interruptions are outside of the catchment. Over half are directly related to high risk outside of our catchment. In total, the 696 Build Queensbridge team participated/co-hosted in over 21 events inside of the catchment area.

These events range from direct violence interruption to hospital responses to shooting response events. In addition to working tirelessly towards preventing violence spillover from the neighboring housing developments, we also serve as the lead facilitator of monthly regional meetings with our local Cure Violence partners: Life Camp Inc. located in Jamaica Queens, Rock Safe Streets in Far Rockaway Queens, and Tru 2 Life, which is located in Staten Island.

Strengthening our community by preventing future conflicts, encouraging professional advancement, enhancing awareness and promoting health.
