I thought I knew just about everything about RVing and then I learned a simple RV maintenance step that every RVer should know. After 3 years of living as full time RVers I somehow never knew about my water heater's anode rod.

Well, it turns out the anode rod is supposed to be checked - and probably replaced - once a year. And that's for casual RVers! We are full time RVers so our water heater gets used way more than the typical rig. So as soon as I learned about this maintenance procedure I ordered a replacement.

Thankfully, it is an incredibly inexpensive part and only takes about ten minutes to replace. I just hope our water heater isn't damaged from waiting three times as long to replace the anode rod.

Anywho, after getting the job done we burned off our appliance anxiety by exploring a desert slot canyon near Joshua Tree National Park! The Ladder Canyon hike runs through a gorgeous gorge that quickly shrinks down to a slot canyon no wider than your shoulders!
