Winter is a difficult time for bonsai enthusiasts - it makes you do bad things like buy a Mallsai. It happened to me about 3 or 4 years ago. Against all odds the tree, a Ligustrum chinensis (chinese privet) didn't die. This Mallsai (a bonsai bought in a Mall or big box store) has the typical ugly artificial-lookoing S shape (also known in Chinese penjing as crouching tiger style). This tree is in severe need of a repot and being a non-temperate tree it is ok to do it at this time of the year. I also take the opportunity to restyle the tree into a more natural form. In this video you can see the transformation from Mallsai to Bonsai and along the way a few additional tips while I repot. Music: Scratch the itch by Quinoas Moreira, Youtube music library
