I had the pleasure of attending the first ever MakersCamp in the Catskills, where I met Jimmy DiResta for the first time. He has been an inspiration for quite some time, and I wanted to make him a present. I have some experience using greyscale imagery to create 3D topographic models of lakes and other locations, so I thought I would make him a 3D art piece of New York, and carve in into a some beautiful walnut. Not only do I show you the build, but walk you briefly through my process for creating the model and project. I want to give a huge thanks to the Catskill Makers Camp. This was the first annual, and it was a fantastic and intimate experience - and I would bet that next year will be much larger.
