This is the story of a deeply committed police detective by the name of Sebastian Castellanos. His life is certainly not one of blissful insouciance, that would be too much to ask for in that line of work. Rather, every day happens to be a constant struggle against criminal malice. Such is the terrible curse of Krimson City, a vast metropolis being consumed by corruption. For many years now, the local rate of murder as well as sudden disappearances has been on a disturbingly steady rise, no signs of decline in sight. Still, Sebastian is most dedicated to a firm sense of justice, and his strenuous efforts have greatly assisted in maintaining a crumbling structure of law and order on the streets. For each solved case, however, another seems to emerge from the shadows - the latest one an emergency call from Beacon Mental Hospital. Surely this is just going to become another "ordinary" job and not a journey into the deepest bowls of mind-bending insanity... Wait, what?

"The Evil Within" happens to be a psychological action horror game, third person camera and everything. At first glance, it very much appears to be just another clone of the famous "Resident Evil" series, however, much uniqueness awaits beneath the surface. While it doesn't manage to reinvent the wheel, "The Evil Within" does successfully deliver one hell of a journey into madness, adding bits and pieces from the much beloved "Silent Hill" series to its formula in order to create a truly twisted experience and story. Your surroundings cannot be trusted, they constantly shift and change before your very eyes, conveying a sense of being absolutely lost in a world of irrational ways. Enemies are grotesque and brutal, merciless monstrosities existing solely to hunt you down. It is a dreadful mire of unleashed nightmares, each new wave of terror worse than the last.... And we are stuck in it all, our fate to suffer eternally! Well, not everything is lost yet. Can we guide Sebastian back to normality and away from a fate far worse than death?
