Letecia “Tecia” Stauch, told police Gannon was on his way to a friend’s house when he went missing on Monday, January 27, 2020. But did she rent a car that day?

“I just heard from someone who works at a rental car place that the stepmom rented a car Monday morning and returned it Monday night. Police swabbed it for DNA and then came back and took it for evidence.”

"There’s information that we have received that we need to search a different area," El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Deborah Mynatt told NBC News, who declined to elaborate.

"We kind of do the street light rule. When the street lights come on or it gets dark, they better be home and it was like maybe 30 minutes past that. Started to worry at that point. Then I started texting all the friends that we know he goes to and nobody had seen him," Al Stauch said.

Dad said it was "unlike him so that's why we're obviously really concerned. Once we went through that whole checklist it's like, you know, where could he be?" Stauch said.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office had received dozens of tips about Gannon. The office is also accepting applications from people who would like to take part in the search.

11-year-old Gannon Stauch of Security, Colorado, has now been missing for a week. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said he was last seen by Letecia Stauch, his stepmother, who told authorities he was headed to a friend's house down the street. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket and jeans. He is 4'9" and weighs 90 pounds.

Authorities were treating Gannon as a runaway until Thursday when the status changed to Missing and Endangered based upon the length of time and medications he needs. The change also brings in additional resources from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and other agencies.

El Paso County Sheriff's deputies had been concentrating search efforts in and around Gannon's Lorson Ranch neighborhood of southeast Colorado Springs. But Sunday afternoon, the search command post moved about 10 miles south to the Sheriff's Office Training Facility, located across the street from the El Paso County Jail.
