As with all cereal snack mixes, this one starts off with an equal amount of both rice and corn Chex or "cereal squares". Add into that some old-fashioned oyster or soup crackers, a couple good handfuls of mini pretzels and a bag of parmesan goldfish crackers. Give this all a good mix in the biggest bowl you have in your kitchen that will contain the delicious blend of ingredients. Stir, stir, stir, toss, toss, toss. Mix it all up good!
Next its time to mix up the ranch sauce that will bake on to the snack mix. It starts out with one stick of melted butter. I won’t tell if you use a little more. Don’t use too much or it will be too messy. Add to the butter some ranch dressing mix, garlic powder, onion powder and dried dill weed. I am using my homemade ranch dressing mix that I make in large batches a couple times a year to have on hand for dip and flavorizing a lot of delicious dishes. Oddly we don’t use it for dressing that often. I use it to make a delicious, slow cooked ranch chicken, I use it to add to my flour dredge for oven fried chicken and more. Its great to have on hand. Mix this all of well until it is smooth and creamy.

Now take this sauce and drizzle it over the dry ingredients. Using two spoons, toss, toss, toss until all of the cereal, crackers and pretzels are coated with the delicious mixture. Now divide the mixture between a couple of large half sheet cake pans or rimmed half sheet pans. Spread in an even layer and bake for 30 minutes stopping to stir well every 10 minutes. Since I know my oven, I made sure to switch the pans every time I stirred them. Taking the top pan and placing it on the bottom rack and vice versa to be sure for even heating and browning. Burning this will make you sad.
On the last ten minutes of baking, I returned the pans to the oven and then turned the oven off. There will be enough residual heat in the oven to complete the baking process and it will save a little energy as well.
Once the mix is all baked up, remove from the oven and allow to cool on top of the stove. Once cool, you can transfer this to an airtight storage container and enjoy whenever you are ready. You know they will be begging for a taste and you might have to make another batch if you are planning on taking this with you!
I hope you give this crunchy ranch party snack mix a try sometime soon, for the big game or anytime and I hope you love it!
Happy Eating!
