Coronavirus: Italian towns on lockdown amid disease outbreak Several towns in northern Italy are on lockdown as the country struggles to contain an outbreak of coronavirus.

Roadblocks were set up in towns in the region of Lombardy, the epicentre of the Italian outbreak, to stop the movement of people in and out.

Schools, business and restaurants have been closed, and all major public gatherings, including the Venice carnival, have been cancelled.
