A-G Barr asserting 'independence of his department' in the face of 'constant barrage of influence'

The New Republic's Alex Shephard believes Attorney-General William Barr is trying to "assert the independence of the Department of Justice" in the face of a "constant barrage of influence" from external sources but said he may have a "darker motivation" for publicly decrying outside influence.

"Barr and the President are still on the same page... Barr is telling Trump with these interviews 'I've got your back' but he doesn't want him tweeting about it," Mr Shephard said.
