1. Flat-headed lizards - wear a spider costume
a. The Mwanza Agama flat-head lizard is known as the "Spider-Man Lizard" because it can walk on walls and look as if it is wearing Spider-Man costume.
b. This animal primarily lives in Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya. Mwanza Agama is about 15 - 23cm long. Its head, neck and shoulders are usually purple or red while the rest of the body is covered in dark blue.
c. The special thing is that only the male has a vivid color while the female only has brown. At the hottest time in a day, the Mwanza Agama flat-headed lizards usually lie on the rocks and hills of Kenya, basking in the sun.
d. More specifically, in a suitable temperature and balanced diet, grasshoppers, crickets and worms can become domestic pets and live up to 15 years.
2. Pink grasshoppers
a. First discovered in 1887, the pink grasshopper is the result of a process called erythrism - similar to the process of appearing recessive genes in albino animals.
b. Due to the process of genetic modification, the creature produces too many red pigments, resulting in a change in the outer color. Grasshoppers are usually green, which helps them easily hide in the wild and escape from insect-eating predators.
c. However, both bearing striking color and living in non-tropical areas like Osaka and the Midwestern United States, pink grasshoppers are easily detected and eaten by such predators. Out of 500 individuals, only 1 is a pink grasshopper. Currently, scientists have been trying to create this species and they’ve achieved the first success when Audubon Laboratory in New Orleans welcomed the first litter of bright pink grasshopper babies in 2009.
3. Rainbow-colored peacock spiders
a. The peacock spider is an animal favored by nature for its striking colors. According to some studies, this is a sliding spider because it can glide smoothly in the air thanks to the abdominal. In reality, however, females’ colorful covering has the function of helping them perform mating rituals.
b. When discovering a partner, a female spider will "open" the thin scale covering his abdomen and begin to move his legs, looking as if he is dancing to attract the partner’s attention. Since the creature has a small body and only lives scattered in some areas of Australia, there’ve been not many studies about it.
c. The male dance can be repeated many times with female spiders. The more females are attracted, the easier the spiders maintain their race.
