The #BossPainter is back! Tony from LearnAutoBodyandPaint with another quick and great question from Gordon.
“Hi Tony, I’ll send more photos but as you can see the scratch in the paint and where the edge of the trunk has a tape line on it, from where the idiot taped and sprayed the car.
You can see the tape marks in the paint and now you see a scratch that has appeared in the paint as well.”
What’s showing on your can is the paint cracking and not a scratch. It looks like a low- priced clear was used and it started cracking after it cured. It can also be due to masking the line underneath and taking the paper off then gouged to the clear.
A crack is a result of cheap coats, it usually happens if the coat is too thin and ordinary. To redo this, you need to repaint the entire car and sand the whole thing down really well.
The LearnAutoBodyAndPaint VIP Program has the step by step procedure on how to do this. Additionally, you can prime the whole thing down and sealing it with a primer-sealer. Then putting a fresh coat of base coat, followed by two to three coats of clear coat.
Let me just reiterate that the only thing you can do is repaint the whole car. Use an epoxy primer for a rusted large metal area.
On the other hand, you can use a 2k filler primer for small size areas.
If you do epoxy first, follow through with a 2k primer and cut it down then sand and put your base coat clear coat paint job on top of that, or a single-stage enamel.
