01.14.2020 | 8:00 AM | LA MIRADA - A SWAT team used tear gas to take a barricaded suspect into custody, Tuesday morning. Authorities responded to reports of a burglary in the 14800 block of Costa Mesa Drive around 8:00 AM.
Units arriving on scene contacted a male suspect who fled from the location to a nearby condominium complex where he entered an occupied home.
A woman and her two children fled from the home as deputies took up a perimeter around the home and demanded the man exit.
After a hours long standoff members of a SWAT team used tear gas and distraction devices to coax the suspect out.
The suspect remained noncompliant and the team entered the home and took him into custody without incident.
Firefighter paramedics transported the suspect to an area hospital for evaluation.
