Along with that, if you DO allow consistent interactions with dogs and people, be aware that you’re training your dog to he excited and to anticipate an interaction—you’re creating a pattern. Meaning, when your dog sees another dog or person, they’ll be expecting—and rightly so—that an interaction lies ahead. And you’ll get all the hyped up, overly-excited behavior that goes with it.
The behavior issues of the dogs featured in this video run the gamut. From serious reactivity, to biting people, to fear. If you watch, you’ll see a great example of teaching dogs, even those with issues, to simply exist, and be with you in a calm, and safe state. Which is the state that allows you to include your dog far more in your life.
P.S. Notice that no dogs in the group are allowed to crowd any of the others, and that no people are petting or getting in their faces. That’s a smart strategy for 99.9999% of you. Those with unicorn dogs, please feel free not to remind me that they exist. I’m aware.
