What is the Recommendation System or Recommender System or Recommender Engine or Recommendation Engine?

Recommendation systems, also known as recommendation engines, are a type of information system whose purpose is to suggest or recommend items or actions to users.

The recommendations may consist of:
Retail items (books, movies, products, etc.) or
Actions, such as following other users in a social network.

In Short, recommender systems try to learn the user’s preferences and recommend the user with a list of items based on their preferences which match best.
