Ruiz weighed in at 284 pounds for the Dec. 7 rematch against Joshua, 15 pounds heavier than he’d been in their June 1 bout, which he won in stunning knockout. He lost the rematch by unanimous decision.  At least partially because of his everyman looks, Ruiz won new fans worldwide after his TKO of Joshua this summer. He was given basically no chance to win the first fight. Joshua was the reigning heavyweight champion while Ruiz was an emergency fill-in who only got the fight after another boxer failed three drug tests and Ruiz slid into a promoter’s DMs.  Ruiz told TMZ Sports that he’s hoping for a third fight against Joshua and plans to feature more pad work and fewer Coronas in his training for that fight.
