Alex Jones, 42, last hosted The One Show back in April this year, just a month before she welcomed her second child with husband Charlie Thomson to the world. With her co-presenter Matt Baker, 41, breaking the news he was quitting the BBC magazine programme earlier this month, the Welsh star made a cameo appearance in tonight’s episode (20 December) to announce her return next month. A number of guests hosts have stepped in to take on Alex’s role since she has been on maternity leave, with former Strictly Come Dancing star Alex Scott, 35, being the latest stand-in this week. Hosting the programme tonight with Patrick Kielty, 48, the pair opened the show by introducing a clip of the Welsh presenter who had some news to share. Dressed up for the festive occasion, the new mother told viewers she would be making her big comeback for the first show of the New Year on January 6, 2020. This means she will be back in time to share the sofa with Matt one last time before he makes his exit in the coming months. We’ll both be back come January to wish everybody a Happy New Year.” Matt was close to tears as he announced he would be quitting his role after almost a decade at the beginning of the month.
