Non-academic job interviews can be stressful. However, academic job interviews can be equivalent to an Olympic event. Attendees of this NCA PrepTalk will learn the difference between non-academic and academic job interviews. In addition, attendees will learn strategies to prepare for different types of interviews such as telephone, video and in-person. Attendees will also learn strategies for all stages of interview preparation including: travel plans, handouts, teaching demo tips, research talk tips, job talk tips, managing your interview day to sustain your energy, the interview during a meal, follow up, and more. Attendees will leave the PrepTalk with practical information they can use to stand out and survive the academic job interview. Stacy Smulowitz, Ph.D., ABC, is an Assistant Professor at The University of Scranton where she teaches courses in advertising, healthcare marketing and organizational communication, and advises the Ad Club and the National Student Advertising Competition team. Smulowitz's research interests focus on theory and strategy for assessing and promoting excellence in organizational leadership. She holds a Ph.D. from Rutgers University, The State University of New Jersey, USA, a master's degree from Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY, USA, a bachelor's degree from Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, PA, USA, and accreditation through the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). Smulowitz is also President of Smulowitz Communications, a strategic communication consulting firm.
