Note: The following video depicts a specific configuration of the notebook. The same removal and replacement procedures apply to all configurations of the notebook.
Before you begin: Remove the battery and optical drive.
Removal
1. Remove the five 4 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the base enclosure to the top cover.
2. Remove the seven 5 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the base enclosure to the top cover.
3. Remove the two 2 mm P1 Phillips broad-head screws from the optical drive bay that secure the base enclosure to the top cover.
4. Remove the five 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws from the battery bay that secure the base enclosure to the top cover.
5. Starting battery bay, carefully separate the edges of the base enclosure from the top cover.
CAUTION! To prevent damage to the base enclosure, take extreme care when separating the area around the optical drive bay from the top cover.
6. Lift the base enclosure off of the top cover and remove.
Replacement
1. Place the base enclosure into position on the top cover.
2. Apply pressure to the edges of the base enclosure to snap it into place.
3. Replace the five 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws into the battery bay that secure the base enclosure to the top cover.
4. Replace the two 2 mm P1 Phillips broad-head screws into the optical drive bay that secure the base enclosure to the top cover.
5. Replace the seven 5 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the base enclosure to the top cover.
6. Replace the five 4 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the base enclosure to the top cover.
Caution: Improperly installing or replacing parts could damage your HP device or void your warranty. Before replacing any parts, check your warranty.
