The zip in your favourite boots won’t close or keeps popping open? However frustrating it is, don't even think about throwing the boots out, with a little bit of patience you will mend a zip in not time at all. Examine the zipper teeth first and if some of them are bent, straighten them out with a pair of pliers. Do the job carefully as it's very easy to break the teeth. You should also check if loose threads don't impede the zipper's path.
If the teeth are straight and the thread isn't stuck in the zip, it means that the slider has started to come apart and doesn’t cling the teeth together anymore. In this case use a pair a pliers again to close the slider together. Be careful and don't use too much force as even metal sliders are fragile and can snap when pressed too hard.
