Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has reasserted that Hong Kong is a part of China “no matter what happened" at the polls. The Foreign Ministry reiterated that the most paramount task is to stop violence and restore order in the city. It has also expressed its firm support for Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam. Meanwhile, China's state media has focused on what it says are “shameless measures" used to help pan-democrats secure victory. The Global Times, a tabloid affiliated with People's Daily, has accused the West of helping the Hong Kong opposition.
