The Conservatives and Labour have both announced plans for massive increases in spending on infrastructure and public services – funded by more borrowing.

The Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell said under Labour there would be “Investment on a scale never seen before”.

The Chancellor Sajid Javid claimed the Conservatives would bring about an “infrastructure revolution”.
