LIVE: Protesters gather in front of National Police Headquarters in Barcelona

Protesters are gathering in front of the National Police Headquarters in Via Laietana, Barcelona, on Saturday, October 26, for a new round of demonstrations in support of jailed Catalan leaders.

The protest was called late on Thursday and organisers are urging demonstrators to “return all the rubber bullets that police have fired” at them.

Barcelona has been shaken by a series of protests and strikes after nine former officials were sentenced to between nine and 13 years in prison on Monday, October 14, for their role in Catalonia’s unauthorised independence referendum of 2017.
