During a press conference Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying denied Pompeo's claims about China's "long arm" and accused the US of bullying practices that suppress foreign entities.
Pompeo's comments were made during a recent interview with CNBC.
Hua cited figures released by the US-China Business Council that said 97% of US companies surveyed are making profits in the Chinese market and more than 95% of companies denied that they had been asked by China to transfer technology.
"I have no idea how Mr. Pompeo drew such a conclusion," Hua told reporters.
She then addressed comments from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who claimed in an interview with NBC that China interferes with elections in the US and other countries through the internet.
Hua called Zuckerberg's claims "absurd and laughable."
Hua also said she had no comment on the result of Canada's general election in which Prime Minister Justin Trudeau won a second term.
The two countries have been at odds since Canada detained a senior executive of China's technology company Huawei last December.
